RAPID CITY, S.D. – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program participants across South Dakota, including shoppers in the greater Rapid City region, can now receive a 50 percent discount on qualifying milk purchases at select regional grocery stores.
Eight G.F. Buche Co. retail sites are serving as the only locations in South Dakota participating in ADD Milk, a federal incentive program aimed at expanding access to healthy fluid milk. The price reduction applies automatically at checkout when shoppers select qualifying unflavored, unsweetened skim or 1 percent fluid cow milk and pay using a SNAP/EBT card.
“Every grocery dollar matters, especially right now,” said R.F. Buche, CEO and President of G.F. Buche Co. “Milk is a staple in many homes, and cutting the cost in half can make a real difference over the course of a month. ADD Milk helps families keep more of their SNAP benefits for the rest of their grocery list without giving up something they buy every week. This is exactly the kind of practical, everyday support we want to bring to the communities we serve”.
Participating Buche Foods stores are located in Gregory, Mission, Wagner, Oacoma, Pine Ridge, and Mobridge, alongside Buche’s Gus Stop locations in Lower Brule and Wanblee. These locations serve key rural and tribal communities throughout the state, providing direct food savings for families traveling between local reservation communities and the Rapid City area.
The savings program stems from the Healthy Fluid Milk Incentives initiative established under the 2018 Farm Bill. Managed by the Hunger Solutions Institute at Auburn University with support from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, ADD Milk currently operates at more than 600 retail sites across more than 10 states. By lowering milk costs by half, the initiative allows SNAP recipients to reserve more of their benefits for other household necessities including meat, produce, and pantry items.
