SPEARFISH, S.D. – Spearfish fire crews were paged out to a wildfire on Sunday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. in the area south of Oliver Street.

Upon arrival firefighters began to attack the fire, stopping forward progress.

South Dakota State Wildland Fire Whitewood Volunteer Fire Department, Deadwood Volunteer Fire Department, also responded to assist with suppression efforts.

The fire was contained to approximately 1.1 acres and the cause is being investigated by South Dakota State Wildland Fire.

Also on scene were Spearfish Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service, and Lawrence County Office of Emergency Management.
