RAPID CITY, S.D. – The closure of Spring Brook Road at the intersection of Sheridan Lake Road has been extended through May 15 as work continues on a water main project in southwest Rapid City.

According to an update from the City of Rapid City, the extension is due to safety concerns related to the location of the construction. Crews are installing a water line on the inside curve of Sheridan Lake Road, where equipment used for the project limits visibility for drivers in the area.

Spring Brook Road has been closed at Sheridan Lake Road since April 8, when Mainline Contracting Inc. began work to install a water main for the Southwest Booster Station. The closure remains in place while construction continues.

Traffic in the area is being rerouted using detours from Catron Boulevard and Sheridan Lake Road. City officials say the extension is being implemented out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of both drivers and construction crews.

The project timeline has been updated on the City of Rapid City’s website under Road Construction Updates.
