RAPID CITY, SD — Ward 1 Council Member Dr. Stephen Tamang was elected to the office of Vice President during this Monday’s meeting of the City Council, following his brief tenure of just over six months. His appointment comes following the departure of former VP, Council member Bill Evans.

Tamang was nominated for the position by current Council President Rod Pettigrew (appointed 2025) and was the sole nomination made at the meeting. Tamang works as a physician at monument health, and has become known for his posts on Social Media, in which he informs his constituents on matters of public policy frequently.

Tamang was elected in July of 2025, with the council electing Pettigrew and Evans that same night.
