STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis City Council met in special session Friday night for the second time this week, and set June 2^nd as the date to fill a vacancy in Ward 1.

The vacancy was opened up when Nick Jones turned his resignation letter Thursday.

Jones is moving out of the state and his departure from the council will become official on May 19^th.

At the meeting, Jones stated; ” I just want to say thank you to the voters for believing in me and the staff through all this. Boy when I started it was pretty wild in here to put it lightly. We’ve come a really long way and I’m really confident in where it’s going. Thank you.”

Jones was elected to the council in 2026.
