STURGIS, S.D. – Sturgis Police issued their updated rally numbers Tuesday with illegal parking citations on the rise.

On the year, police have doled out 52 parking citations with 10 written out in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

Also seeing an increase are misdemeanor drug arrests, which now total 43 on the year. There were 10 arrests added to the total on Monday. Felony drug arrests totaled 5 yesterday, sending the year-to-date number to 19.

Police also reported 2 injury crashes, including one on Junction Avenue, as well as 3 non-injury crashes.

Sturgis Police also had 3 burglary or theft calls Monday and made 4 D.U.I. arrests. The number of D-U-I arrests on the year total 24, still down a bit over last year at this time.

In all, Sturgis Police have made 781 calls for service. The jail population rose to 77 with a dozen people calling it home Monday.
