RAPID CITY, SD – A Rapid City man faces multiple charges following a low-speed police pursuit through a residential neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

Miles Makesgood, 35, of Rapid City, was arrested after allegedly fleeing from officers while under the influence of an inhalant.

The incident began around 3:50pm on June 21, when officers with the Rapid City Police Department responded to a home in the 100 block of Crescent Drive. Police received reports of a male parked in an SUV who was allegedly huffing air duster.

Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle in the driveway with Makesgood inside. In an attempt to prevent the suspect from leaving, officers parked their cruisers nearby to pin the SUV. However, Makesgood drove around the police units, prompting a pursuit.

The low-speed chase moved through the Star Village neighborhood, where the SUV drove through a yard in the unit block of E. Signal Drive. Officers successfully deployed spike strips to deflate the vehicle’s tires near East Boulevard and Quincy Street.

Despite the deflated tires, the vehicle returned to Star Village and came to a stop in the 100 block of E. Signal Drive. Makesgood exited the SUV and was detained by officers without further incident.

A subsequent search of Makesgood revealed a can of air duster that was cold to the touch. Authorities determined he was too impaired to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Makesgood was transported to the Pennington County Jail and booked at 4:49pm. He faces charges of ingesting a substance other than alcohol to intoxicate, second-offense driving under the influence, reckless driving, second-degree eluding, driving on the wrong side of the road, driving under suspension, and possession of a revoked, altered, or fictitious driver’s license.
