FAITH, S.D. – The Meade County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Sunday after leading authorities on a high-speed chase in a stolen pickup.

The sheriff’s office says Faith police spotted the individual and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect fled in the stolen truck.

Law enforcement terminated the chase when it entered the city limits of Faith for safety reasons.

Authorities say an airplane provided by a local rancher was used to locate the suspect and the stolen truck in a pasture Sunday evening.

In a social media post, the sheriff’s office wrote “working alongside the Ziebach County Sheriff, they began searching from above. Around 8:20 p.m., they located the stolen pickup sitting out in a pasture after the suspect had decided roads were apparently optional. The aircraft stayed overhead, circling the location until deputies and assisting officers could safely converge on the pickup.”

Law enforcement converged on the truck and the suspect was apprehended using non-lethal bean bag rounds after he advance toward officers.

The suspect, who was not named, was arrested on several charges.

The sheriff’s office stated “from the first report at 2:22 p.m. until the suspect was in custody at 10:20 p.m., this was an incredible display of teamwork. Faith Police, Ziebach County, SD Highway Patrol, our deputies, assisting agencies, dispatchers, and one very generous local pilot all played a part in bringing this to a safe conclusion.”
