School Bond Proposal Highlighted at Black Hills Forum Luncheon
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Areas Schools’ $107 million bond proposal was the topic at the July Black Hills Forum & Press Club luncheon at the Doubletree in Rapid City Friday. The proposed bond would address several district priorities including $32 million in HVAC needs, security and facility upgrades and a $40 million new elementary school at the Parkview property to meet the needs of the shifting population of the city. To pass in the November 3 referendum, the bond proposal needs to hit the 60 percent threshold. Since state law changed in 1973 requiring a 60 percent supermajority vote for a school district bond issue, all six of the attempted bond proposals have failed in Rapid City. (Full story)

Cyber Incident Reported at Rapid City Wastewater Lift Station
RAPID CITY, S.D. — The City of Rapid City experienced a cyber incident involving one of its seven lift stations, which are used as part of the city’s wastewater system. The incident targeted a lift station in the wastewater system, not the drinking water distribution system. A lift station is a low point in the city where wastewater is collected and is then pumped out to the wastewater plant. At no time was the city’s water or wastewater infrastructure systems placed in jeopardy and city officials assure Rapid City residents the city’s water supply remains safe and protected. The incident was unrelated to the cyber-attack on Pennington County systems earlier this month. (Full story)

FlightAware reports 495 flights have been canceled, disrupting travel plans during a three-day weekend. WestJet Encore and code-share flights remain unaffected. (Full story)
