Two civilians sustained minor injuries, and one firefighter was transported to Monument Hospital for further evaluation. The American Red Cross was assisting the family, who lost their home. The cause remains under investigation.

U.S. Orders Military Action in Strait of Hormuz Amid Iran Standoff

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Trump escalated the U.S.-Iran standoff Thursday, ordering the military to shoot and kill Iranian small boats in the Strait of Hormuz and intensifying mine-clearing operations in the waterway. The move came a day after Iran attacked three cargo ships in the strait, capturing two of them. The U.S. military separately seized an oil tanker, the Majestic X, in the Indian Ocean, linked to smuggling Iranian oil. The escalating actions have raised questions about the status of any diplomatic efforts to resolve the standoff.

Trump Administration Reclassifies Medical Marijuana at Federal Level

WASHINGTON (AP) — Trump’s acting attorney general signed an order Thursday reclassifying state-licensed medical marijuana as a less-dangerous drug, a move a cannabis industry group called the most significant federal advancement in cannabis policy in decades. The order largely legitimizes medical marijuana programs in the 40 states that have adopted them and, for the first time, allows state-licensed cannabis companies to deduct business expenses on federal taxes. Critics argue the policy shift is being driven by industry interests rather than public health evidence.

Warner Bros. Discovery Shareholders Approve $81 Billion Sale to Paramount Skydance

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shareholders of Warner Bros. Discovery approved an $81 billion sale of the company to Paramount Skydance on Thursday. The deal, including debt, is valued at nearly $111 billion. Pending regulatory approval, the merger would bring together properties including HBO Max, Harry Potter, Top Gun, CBS and CNN under one ownership structure. Paramount was itself acquired by Skydance just last year. The deal would further consolidate power in a Hollywood landscape already dominated by a handful of major players.

Nuclear Power Sees Global Revival Four Decades After Chernobyl

(AP) — Four decades after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster reshaped global attitudes toward nuclear energy, the industry is experiencing a significant revival. More than 400 nuclear reactors are now operational in 31 countries, with roughly 70 more under construction. Nuclear power accounts for approximately 10 percent of the world’s electricity, equivalent to about a quarter of all low-carbon power. The International Energy Agency says that while both Chernobyl and the 2011 Fukushima disaster in Japan dampened enthusiasm for nuclear, a rebound had been anticipated for years.
