RAPID CITY, SD – Drivers in Rapid City should prepare for traffic delays starting Thursday morning as crews begin installing concrete barricades around Memorial Park to accommodate upcoming summer events.

The traffic restrictions will impact sections of both Fifth Street and Omaha Street. According to city officials, workers from Hilt Engineering will close the southbound outside lane of Fifth Street from North Street to Omaha Street. Additionally, the westbound outside lane of Omaha Street will be closed between Fifth Street and Mount Rushmore Road while the barriers are put into place.

The barricades are being installed to ensure public safety ahead of an anticipated influx of visitors to the area. Memorial Park is scheduled to host several major community events over the next month, including June Fest this weekend, the Real America Birthday Bash celebration next week, and Hills Alive in mid-July.

Crews expect to complete the barricade installation and reopen the restricted lanes by Friday afternoon. Motorists traveling through downtown Rapid City are advised to use caution, watch for workers, and plan for potential delays during the construction window.
