8:29am UPDATE: West Boulevard south from West Rapid Street (Nikko Street) to West Main Street is currently closed down by Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern Railroad for emergency railroad crossing repairs. TSC has put up traffic control this morning and the closure is anticipated for today and could progress into tomorrow. A detour is in place with southbound traffic on West Boulevard detoured on to West Rapid Street. Drivers advised to allow extra time to reach destinations if traveling in the affected area. RAPID CITY, S.D. – Commuters in Rapid City faced unexpected delays Tuesday morning as construction crews initiated at a downtown railroad crossing.
The active work zone forced local officials to implement a temporary detour on the southbound lane of West Boulevard. The closure is currently impacting the heavily traveled stretch of roadway between West Rapid City Street and Main Street.
Traffic updates for the Rapid City area will be provided as the infrastructure work progresses.
