STURGIS, S.D. – A R.C.P. & E. train came to a halt at Sturgis Saturday evening after it struck a pickup truck attempting to cross the tracks.

Sturgis Police Chief Geody Vandewater says a subject was trying to cross the railroad crossing at Dixon Drive and failed to yield to the train that was approaching.

The train ended up hitting the rear portion of the truck.

He says there was no injuries reported and functional damage to the vehicle.

The stopped train ended up blocking Dixon Drive as well as Junction Avenue at the Ford dealership for a couple of hours. Rally traffic coming down Vanocker Canyon was being detoured onto Pineview Drive.
