Sometimes, a community event is about more than shiny chrome, custom paint, and horsepower.
On Saturday, July 25, JR’s Roadhouse in Black Hawk will become a gathering place for people from across the Black Hills to celebrate their love of cars, motorcycles, and community while supporting a cause that touches countless lives. Hosted by Troubleheads MC, the Changing Lives Foundation Charity Car and Bike Show will raise money and awareness for suicide prevention efforts throughout the region.
For event organizer Aaron Remington, the inspiration behind the event came from a simple desire to give back in a meaningful way.
“This event was inspired by our club’s commitment to giving back and the real need for suicide prevention efforts in our community,” Remington said. “South Dakota faces tough challenges with suicide, especially among younger people, and we wanted to create a fun, positive gathering that raises awareness and funds while celebrating cars and bikes.”
The mission behind the event goes far beyond the vehicles on display.
Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among young people in South Dakota and continues to impact veterans, families, and communities throughout the Black Hills. Remington said many members of Troubleheads MC and the local riding community have experienced the effects firsthand, making this cause deeply personal.
“We believe events like this can help break the stigma, promote resources, and fund real support,” he said. “Every dollar raised helps support awareness campaigns, community programs, and services that can truly change lives.”
The event promises something for everyone, whether you’re a lifelong gearhead or simply looking for a great way to spend a summer Saturday.
Event goes from 11am to 5pm where guests can browse a judged car and bike show featuring everything from classic cars and custom motorcycles to daily drivers and one-of-a-kind builds. A silent auction will offer unique items for attendees to bid on, while vendor booths, a beer garden, and delicious BBQ from JR’s Roadhouse round out the day’s activities. The evening wraps up with live music from Deep Fuzz from 6 to 8 p.m.
Those interested in showing off their own ride are encouraged to participate.
“Anyone is welcome to enter,” Remington said. “Whether you’ve got a classic car, a custom motorcycle, a daily driver, or a show-quality build, it’s open to all makes, models, and styles. You don’t have to be a club member or have a perfect vehicle. Just come celebrate what you ride or drive.”
Vehicle registration is available through the Troubleheads MC Facebook page, with both pre-registration and day-of registration options available. The judged competition will feature multiple vehicle categories along with custom laser-engraved trophies recognizing first, second, and third place finishers, along with several specialty awards.
Remington says what has stood out most during the planning process has been the overwhelming support from the community.
“Seeing local businesses, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and organizations like Changing Lives Foundation come together has been incredibly humbling,” he said. “It reminds us how strong the Black Hills community is when we work together. This event is a reflection of the riding community and our local spirit of looking out for one another and turning passion into positive action.”
Admission to the event is free for the public, while vehicle registration is $20, with all proceeds benefiting the Changing Lives Foundation and its suicide prevention efforts.
Whether you’re coming for the classic cars, custom motorcycles, live music, great food, or simply to support an important cause, Remington hopes the community will show up in a big way.
“Come on out. You won’t regret it,” he said. “It’s a low-pressure, high-fun day with great people, awesome vehicles, live music, and good eats. Most importantly, your support helps fund suicide prevention efforts that can save lives and bring hope to families right here in our community.”
