RAPID CITY, SD — Early in the morning today, police found themselves busy as a pair of incidents ended with damages to two Big D locations.
The first incident, reported just after midnight, drew police’s attention after attempts to break in activated store security systems at 49 E. Omaha Street, leading to rapid response from law enforcement. After arriving, police reported a broken window at the location and contacted store management. Reviews of security footage from around the time of the alarms’ activation revealed two individuals fleeing the scene.
Later, at 1:15 a.m. another Big D, located at 1507 E. St. Patrick Street found itself in similar circumstances as police arrived to find a second broken window. Nearby witnesses confirmed the presence of two individuals who had fled the scene moments ago, heading southward. “Video from the business showed two males breaking the front window and entering the store,” said RCPD’s Brendyn Medina “They grabbed a number of items before fleeing the store to the south”.
While police were on scene, two men approached the gas station. “One of the males began taking photos of the damage,” said the RCPD’s report on the incident. Police made contact with both individuals and confirmed their identities as Icamna Blue Legs (22) and Payten Lakota (18) both of whom were residents of Rapid City. “It was determined they were the same suspects seen in the video from both businesses,” read reports from the RCPD, and both were arrested shortly after this determination was made.
Blue Legs was placed under arrest for 3rd Degree Burglary and Felony Vandalism. Lakota was placed under arrest for 3rd Degree Burglary, Minor in Possession of Alcohol, and Underage Consumption of Alcoholic Beverages.
