RAPID CITY, SD — Two Incidents involving vehicle collisions into pedestrians occurred this Saturday evening, leaving three injured and resulting in the arrest of a juvenile.

The first, occurring at 5:10pm led to the dispatch of RCPD officers to the area surrounding New York St. and N. 3rd Street. Reports indicated that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian on the roadway, moving with first responders to transport the pedestrian, who had acquired “serious, non-life threatening” injuries for medical service.

“Police made contact with witnesses and learned the pedestrian unexpectedly ran out into the roadway before being struck by a pickup,” said RCPD Representative Brendyn Medina in a report following the incident. The case is ongoing, and no arrests have been reported in relation to the incident as of the time of writing.

The second incident, occurring at 8:45pm resulted in a similar dispatch of police to the area of Saint Joseph St. and 5th St. In contrast, reports indicated that two pedestrians had been struck at the intersection. These pedestrians were similarly transported with serious, non-life-threatening injuries to the hospital, and contact was initiated with all involved parties.

During investigation it was determined that both pedestrians were struck when the vehicle turned the corner into the crosswalk, and RCPD reports indicate that “It was also determined the driver of the pickup was impaired due to marijuana ingestion”. The driver themself was a juvenile and thus remains anonymous in reports.
