Toilets and sinks were damaged beyond repair and debris was strewn throughout the facilities.

“There was serious and considerable damage to the restrooms. Sadly, we encounter issues with damage and graffiti in our City parks on a regular basis,” said City Parks Division Manager Scott Anderson. “This incident is one of the most substantial and serious instances of destruction I’ve seen.”

Restroom facilities in the city’s parks are checked and cleaned on a daily basis. City park rangers are also utilized to monitor conditions in the city’s parks and greenway areas. Parks officials have closed various facilities in the past for various durations of time while repairs are made. Some facilities are not reopened due to continued issues with vandalism.

“The park facilities are a city asset and it will take considerable city resources to repair the damage,” Anderson said.

Officials are asking for the public’s assistance and to report any suspicious activity witnessed at the park Wednesday afternoon.

“We have increased our monitoring and efforts in the parks but it’s important for the public to step up and share if they see any suspicious activity in our parks. If they see something, say something,” Anderson said.

Mary Hall Park is located in west Rapid City off Sioux San Drive and is one of more than three dozen parks in the city’s park system.
