RAPID CITY, SD — The Rapid City Fire Department has released a report on their busy night. On the heels of the nearly 16 acre wildfire which spread rapidly and nearly scorched several vehicles and commercial buildings, a 3:00 am call came in, reporting an “explosion” at 3124 W. Rapid St.
Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a Chevrolet pickup with its engine compartment already ablaze. “Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and determined the reported explosion was the sound of tires rupturing due to heat exposure,” said the RCFD. There were reportedly no injuries connected with this incident.
The cause remains under investigation in the case of both incidents.
