BOX ELDER, S.D. — Residents are invited to cool off and support local first responders during Water Warz 2026, a free community event returning Wednesday, July 29, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The annual event pits the Box Elder Police Department against the Box Elder Fire Department in a friendly competition featuring water-themed games and activities for all ages. Community members can choose a side and join first responders for three hours of family-friendly fun.

Activities will include a massive water gun battle arena, an epic water balloon war with more than 5,000 water balloons, splash baseball, water gun line races, a slingshot challenge, truck showdown voting, dunk-a-hero, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, Pluck a Duck and a Paw Park. The evening will conclude with a grand finale water balloon fight.

In addition to the games, attendees can enjoy food trucks, vendors and music throughout the event.

Organizers thanked event sponsors WaTiki Indoor Water Park, West River Electric, Texas Roadhouse, McKie Ford, Scull Construction, WagCo Construction and Hills Septic for helping make the free event possible.

Those attending should be aware that photographs and video recordings may be taken during the event for promotional, educational and informational purposes by the City of Box Elder.
