RAPID CITY, S.D. — This weekend is stacked with color, creativity, and late-night energy across Rapid City, offering everything from immersive art experiences and interactive theater to drag, dance parties, and high-powered live music.
Friday: Art, Music, and Mystery
Friday afternoon begins at the Dahl Arts Center with Happy Hour from 3–5 p.m. Gallery admission is free thanks to the Friends of the Dahl, and members can enjoy their first drink on the house by checking in at Guest Services. The evening flows seamlessly into the opening reception for The Alchemist at 5 p.m.
The exhibition, created by Black Hills–based artist Lumi, is on display in the Ruth Brennan Gallery through April 11, 2026. The Alchemist brings together two bodies of work—La Période Bleue and La Période Lumière—guiding viewers through a deeply personal and spiritual evolution that moves from dreamlike blue imagery into vibrant explorations of light, color, and sacred geometry. Lumi will also give an artist talk at 6 p.m., offering insight into her creative process and inspirations rooted in the Black Hills.
At 6 p.m., the focus shifts to Firehouse Pizzeria & Wine Cellars for Singo Bingo: Movies and Rock Legends. The music-based bingo night features famous film soundtracks in round one and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame classics in round two, with six chances to win wine throughout the evening. Guests are encouraged to arrive early for Wine Down Happy Hour and to grab a bite before the games begin.
Also Friday night, Coffee and the Cats hosts Little Shop of Rocky Horrors at 6:30 p.m. This adults-only interactive mystery dinner theater blends cult-classic inspiration with live performance, eccentric characters, and audience participation. The experience includes a four-course meal, a drink of the evening, exclusive time in the kitty cove, and supports the café’s adoptable cats.
Saturday: Live Music, Drag, and Dance Floors
Saturday evening kicks off with live blues as Johnny Hastings takes the stage at Shipwrecks at 6 p.m., delivering guitar-driven energy and classic blues flair.
At ABY’s, the night heats up with The Love Shack Drag Show. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m. Expect bold performances, campy comedy, fierce fashion, and unapologetic fun in a 21+ environment designed for big personalities and even bigger energy.
Later, the Planet Freak Dance Party lands at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post at 8:30 p.m. The alien-themed rave celebrates four years of freaky fashion and underground vibes, featuring DJs Lee Strübinger, Soulscend, and Baked Bunz. Costumes are encouraged, and the cover is $10.
The weekend wraps up at Murphy’s Pub & Grill with Float Like a Buffalo hitting the stage at 9 p.m. The Denver-based six-piece is known for explosive, horn-driven funk-rock performances that turn any venue into a full-on dance party, blending groove, grit, and infectious energy.
