As anticipation builds for the 86th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, one name continues to stand out among the stacked lineup at the Legendary Buffalo Chip: Buckcherry. Known for their high-octane performances and unapologetic rock ‘n’ roll energy, the band has become a staple of Rally Week.

In a recent interview on Buffalo Chip Radio, Buckcherry frontman Josh Todd shared insights into the band’s upcoming “Roar Like Thunder” tour, unforgettable live show moments, and what keeps them coming back to Sturgis year after year.

Todd, reflecting on the band’s long-standing relationship with the Buffalo Chip, emphasized the significance of the venue in their touring history.

“We’ve done so many shows at the Buffalo Chip,” Todd said. “It’s something we look forward to every year.”

A New Era: Roar Like Thunder

With the announcement of their latest tour, Roar Like Thunder, Buckcherry continues to build on a reputation forged through relentless touring and crowd-driven performances. According to Todd, fans can expect a refined yet still electrifying experience.

“We based our reputation on our live show!  We bring it,” Todd explained. “This is our eleventh record, and there’s not a bad song on the setlist. We mix it up every night, and it’s just a really fun show.”

The band’s evolution is evident not only in their catalog but also in their delivery. What once thrived on raw chaos has matured into a polished, professional performance without losing its edge.

When Chaos Becomes Legendary

Buckcherry’s live shows are known for unpredictability, and Todd shared one particularly memorable moment that perfectly captures that spirit.

After traveling internationally with little to no sleep, the band arrived just in time for a major U.S. festival performance. Exhausted but committed, they took the stage and what followed became one of their most unforgettable shows.

“Suddenly, they started crowd surfing a guy in a wheelchair,” Todd recalled. “We thought it was going to go horribly wrong, but everyone took care of him. He was having the time of his life. It turned into this magical moment.”

The experience, Todd said, energized the band despite their exhaustion and solidified the performance as a standout in their career.

The Buffalo Chip Difference

While Buckcherry has played countless venues and biker events across the country, Todd insists that nothing compares to the atmosphere at the Buffalo Chip.

“What people don’t realize is when you finish a great song, instead of just applause, you hear hundreds of motorcycles revving at once,” he said. “It’s something you can’t recreate anywhere else.”

Even other biker rallies, Todd noted, have attempted to replicate the experience but fall short of capturing its authenticity.

If Buckcherry Had a “House” at the Chip

In a lighthearted moment during the interview, Todd entertained the idea, originally mentioned in a past promotional video of Buckcherry having a permanent “house” at the Buffalo Chip.

His personal wishlist? Speed, fitness, and the outdoors.

“I’d definitely have a really fast motorcycle!  I love speed,” Todd said. “Probably a GSX-R1000. I’d want a heavy bag for boxing, somewhere to fish, and maybe even a tennis court. I love being outdoors.”

A More Mature, More Powerful Buckcherry

More than two decades into their career, Buckcherry has found a new level of clarity and cohesion. Todd described the current iteration of the band as seasoned, focused, and deeply appreciative of their place in the industry.

“We’ve settled into who we are,” he said. “The show is more polished now. We’re all seasoned musicians, and it really comes across on stage.”

He also pointed out the rarity of traditional rock bands maintaining longevity in today’s music landscape.

“There’s just not a lot of bands like Buckcherry anymore,” Todd added. “So it’s a really unique experience for fans.”

Looking Ahead to Sturgis

Buckcherry is set to perform at the Legendary Buffalo Chip on August 13, bringing their signature blend of grit, energy, and crowd connection back to one of their favorite stages.

For Todd and the band, it’s more than just another tour stop, it’s a tradition.

“We always look forward to getting back to Sturgis,” he said. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
