Donald Dean Moden, age 89, passed away on May 17, 2026 at Monument Hospital in Rapid City, SD. 

 Donald was born on December 2, 1936, in New Underwood, South Dakota, to Oscar and Morna Moden. 

He married Barbara Mettler on October 18, 1957, and together they had five children. After living in New Underwood for a short time, they bought a farm in Box Elder, where they truly put down their roots. Donald farmed, raised cattle, and later operated a dairy business. He also owned a dirt and gravel company, providing topsoil and gravel to many local residents and businesses, and completed various projects throughout the community. In his free time, Donald enjoyed playing cards, attending auctions, and visiting with friends over coffee. 

He loved sharing stories about his many life adventures. Following his retirement, Donald and Barbara traveled extensively in their motorhome, frequently visiting Colorado and Nevada to spend time with their children and grandchildren. 

Donald is survived by 5 children; Kelly (Marie), Vicki, Scott (Tina), Mark, Chris (Brandi).  His siblings; Shirley(Ray) Knuppe, Lois Barber, Gary (Colleen) Moden. 17 Grandchildren,7 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and 2 grandsons. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 10 am at the New Underwood Community Center (500 S A Ave) in New Underwood, SD.   A luncheon will follow the service.
