RAPID CITY, S.D. – The World Ballet Company will bring its production of “Swan Lake” to Rapid City on Oct. 27, featuring a live orchestra performance at The Monument.

The Rapid City stop is part of the company’s 2026-2027 national tour, which includes more than 80 performances across the country. The production provides Rapid City audiences an opportunity to hear Tchaikovsky’s score played live alongside the staging.

“We believe ballet is for everyone, and the response from audiences nationwide has been incredible,” said producer Gulya Hartwick, who co-founded the Los Angeles-based World Ballet Company with Sasha Gorskaya. “Swan Lake is arguably the most iconic ballet ever created, and we’re thrilled to bring this majestic production to you”.

Now in its fourth full season, the touring company visits more than 180 cities across over 40 states each year, featuring dancers from more than 10 countries. The Rapid City staging features choreography by Nadezhda Kalinina, based on the original staging by Marius Petipa, accompanied by more than 150 hand-sewn costumes, hand-painted sets, and multimedia projection visuals.

“Our Swan Lake combines the elegance of classical ballet with vivid, immersive storytelling,” Gorskaya said. “It’s a magical experience for both ballet newcomers and longtime fans”.

The performance tells the story of Prince Siegfried and Odette, a princess cursed to live as a swan by day under a sorcerer’s spell. The staging includes well-known choreography such as the Dance of the Little Swans and the 32 fouettés of the Black Swan.

The Rapid City performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Monument, with tickets ranging from $62.00 to $149.25. The production runs two hours and 30 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission, and is recommended for audiences ages 5 and up.
